{"id":3101,"date":"2017-06-26T10:53:30","date_gmt":"2017-06-26T08:53:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.toulouse-white-biotechnology.com\/insights\/actualites\/actualite\/support-to-igem-2017-toulouse\/"},"modified":"2026-03-16T13:49:34","modified_gmt":"2026-03-16T12:49:34","slug":"support-to-igem-2017-toulouse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.toulouse-white-biotechnology.com\/en\/insights\/blog\/news\/support-to-igem-2017-toulouse\/","title":{"rendered":"Support to iGEM 2017 Toulouse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A team of seven students from the University of Toulouse will participate in the prestigious<\/p>\n\n<strong>iGEM synthetic biology competition<\/strong>\n\n<p>(International Genetically Engineered Machine), organised by the MIT (<\/p>\n\n<a href=\"http:\/\/igem.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/igem.org<\/a>\n\n<p>).\r\nFor the 2017 edition, the iGEM Toulouse team will focus on an innovative way to fight a disease which is still a current issue: the cholera disease.<\/p>\n\n<strong>The objective is to create a simple, cheap and easy-to-use device to decontaminate water that is infected by cholera<\/strong>\n\n<p>.\r\nThis device will contain :<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n \t<li>a sensor bacterium that will detect the presence of Vibrio cholerae in water thanks to the quorum sensing mechanism,<\/li>\r\n \t<li>a cocktail of antimicrobial peptides (naturally found in crocodile\u2019s blood) produced by a yeast that is able to dialog with the sensor bacterium.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>As every year,<\/p>\n\n<strong>TWB provides financial support for this project<\/strong>\n\n<p>led by lecturer-researchers from UT3 and INSA (LISBP).\r\n\r\nPossibility of business sponsorship:<\/p>\n\n<a href=\"mailto:igem.toulouse@gmail.com\">igem.toulouse@gmail.com<\/a>\n\n<em>Contact: V\u00e9ronique Paquet (<a href=\"mailto:paquet@insa-toulouse.fr\">paquet@insa-toulouse.fr<\/a>)<\/em>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A team of seven students from the University of Toulouse will participate in the prestigious iGEM synthetic biology competition (International Genetically Engineered Machine), organised by the MIT ( http:\/\/igem.org ).
