In the names of Engineering Conferences International (ECI) and Genencor<\/strong>\n\n<p>, the 2017 Award was presented at the 24th<\/p>\n\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.engconf.org\/17184-2\/enzyme-engineering-xxiv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Enzyme Engineering Conference<\/a>\n\n<p>(24-28 September, in Toulouse, France).<\/p>\n\n<strong>Pierre Monsan has had a distinguished teaching and research career at the National Institute for Applied Sciences (INSA)<\/strong>\n\n<p>(University of Toulouse, France) since 1969, in the Department of Biochemical Engineering and the laboratory \u201cLISBP\u201d, in the field of carbohydrates enzymatic synthesis.<\/p>\n\n<strong>He founded one of the very first French start-up companies, BioEurope<\/strong>\n\n<p>, focusing on the field of Biocatalysis in 1984. In 1993, BioEurope merged with the Solabia Group. He was also involved in the creation of two companies: BioTrade (1996) and GeniBio (1998).\r\n\r\nThen he returned to INSA to<\/p>\n\n<strong>create the Gilbert Durand Bioengineering Center<\/strong>\n\n<p>and to start a new research group focusing on enzyme molecular engineering with Prof. Magali Remaud-Simeon.\r\n\r\nPierre Monsan was<\/p>\n\n<strong>appointed Professor at Ecole des Mines Paris<\/strong>\n\n<p>in 1993. He was<\/p>\n\n<strong>elected member of the French University Institute (IUF)<\/strong>\n\n<p>in 2003 and re-elected in 2008.<\/p>\n\n<strong>He founded Toulouse White Biotechnology (TWB) in 2012<\/strong>\n\n<p>and he is presently Professor Emeritus at INSA and Director of TWB.\r\n\r\nProfessor Monsan is the<\/p>\n\n<strong>author of more than 240 publications, 3 books and 65 patents<\/strong>\n\n<p>.
