{"id":3329,"date":"2017-03-29T10:46:44","date_gmt":"2017-03-29T08:46:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.toulouse-white-biotechnology.com\/insights\/actualites\/actualite\/the-environmental-evaluation-platform\/"},"modified":"2026-03-16T13:49:46","modified_gmt":"2026-03-16T12:49:46","slug":"the-environmental-evaluation-platform","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.toulouse-white-biotechnology.com\/en\/insights\/blog\/news\/the-environmental-evaluation-platform\/","title":{"rendered":"Environmental evaluation platform"},"content":{"rendered":"<strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-6335\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toulouse-white-biotechnology.com\/app\/uploads\/2017\/03\/acv-300x300-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\">This TWB platform enables the analysis of environmental performances of products and processes.<\/strong>\n\n<p>The \u201cEnvironmental evaluation\u201d platform offers<\/p>\n\n<strong>methods and tools for the analysis of environmental performance in the broad sense, of products and processes<\/strong>\n\n<p>developed within TWB.\r\n\r\nThe evaluation methods offered are recognized by the scientific community:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n \t<li><strong>Life cycle analysis (LCA),<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>carbon footprint,<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>evaluation of environmental risks due to pollutant emissions,<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>energy analysis,<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>exergy analysis,<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>emergy analysis.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>The application of these methods requires mastering a number of tools (software, databases) and the know-how and expertise in the respective fields.\r\n\r\nWe now have<\/p>\n\n<strong>marketed software tools<\/strong>\n\n<p>for the application of the LCA method: SIMAPRO, UMBERTO, base Ecoinvent.\r\n\r\nSince our field of expertise is process modelling, environmental evaluation, and mathematical optimization methods, we are currently developing tools (models and software) for the application of all the evaluation methods mentioned above.\r\n\r\nThe aim of these evaluations could be:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n \t<li><strong>the environmental diagnosis of processes<\/strong> (or products), conducted on an ex post basis on an existing system with a view to its possible improvement, or conducted on an ex ante basis in the project phase with a view to its eco-design;<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>the multi-criteria analysis<\/strong> of a system with a view to its mathematical optimization: for example taking into account environmental impacts in the optimization of a process.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\n\n<strong>We propose the development of modelling tools applicable in the project phase for the process eco-design<\/strong>\n\n<p>. The modelling tools developed perform the environmental diagnosis, calculate the technical parameters of the process, and identify the operating parameters responsible for the environmental impacts generated by the processes.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6334\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toulouse-white-biotechnology.com\/app\/uploads\/2017\/03\/schema-plateau-evaluation-environnementale-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"707\" height=\"405\"><\/figure>\n\n<p>TWB participates as a partner in the European project 2G BIOPIC with the theme \u201cenvironmental evaluation of bioethanol production from ligno-cellulosic residues\u201d.
