Support to iGEM 2017 Toulouse
A team of seven students from the University of Toulouse will participate in the prestigious
iGEM synthetic biology competition(International Genetically Engineered Machine), organised by the MIT (
http://igem.org). For the 2017 edition, the iGEM Toulouse team will focus on an innovative way to fight a disease which is still a current issue: the cholera disease.
The objective is to create a simple, cheap and easy-to-use device to decontaminate water that is infected by cholera. This device will contain :
- a sensor bacterium that will detect the presence of Vibrio cholerae in water thanks to the quorum sensing mechanism,
- a cocktail of antimicrobial peptides (naturally found in crocodile’s blood) produced by a yeast that is able to dialog with the sensor bacterium.
