Team and partners

TWB brings together cutting-edge scientific and technological expertise in synthetic biology, genome engineering, fermentation, and chemical and biological monitoring analyses. Our integrated platforms enable the design, development, and optimization of disruptive solutions.

As the scientific and technical foundation of the biofoundry, our teams work closely with public and private research organizations, as well as trusted partners, to accelerate technological maturation and the transfer toward sustainable industrial applications, within a collaborative and interoperable ecosystem of leading expertise.

The TWB collective brings together more than 70 people dedicated to accelerating innovative biotechnology projects. Activities are structured in a project-based approach around four interoperable technological platforms, led by expert managers in their respective fields who work closely with dedicated project managers and all public and private partners involved in the projects.

These teams are supported on a daily basis by support functions including communication, business development, human resources, legal, finance, and technology transfer.

To complement our offering, we have partnered with associated organizations from various fields:

The Toulouse R&D continuum

Alongside the Toulouse Biotechnology Institute (TBI) and CRITT Bio-Industries…

Alongside the Toulouse Biotechnology Institute (TBI) and CRITT Bio-Industries, key partners on the INSA Toulouse campus, we form an integrated continuum of research and development in industrial biotechnology. From fundamental research to the pre-industrial pilot stage (TRL 7), our close collaboration and framework agreements ensure the smooth progression of projects across the entire innovation scale. This synergy also simplifies contractual negotiations and the management of intellectual property, enabling an optimal transition between each phase.

Notre offre

IBISBA (Industrial Biotechnology Innovation and Synthetic Biology Accelerator) is a European distributed research infrastructure dedicated to industrial biotechnology. It brings together several technological platforms across Europe, covering fields such as bioinformatics, strain engineering, and analytical methods.

At the national level, IBISBA-FR actively contributes to structuring the French industrial biotechnology community and strengthening its synergies. This dynamic is part of the European IBISBA-EU project, whose objective is to provide a single access point to research and development services for academic and industrial stakeholders, both in Europe and internationally.

The Bioindustry 4.0 project brings together six European research infrastructures to foster and promote the deep digitalization of industrial biotechnology. Funded with €9.4 million over four years, the project involves 25 partners from 10 countries.

Coordinated by INRAE (Michael O’Donohue), Bioindustry 4.0 equips laboratories to integrate digital twin technologies by developing new online sensors and real-time monitoring systems.

The Carnot 3BCAR Institute is an institute accredited by the Carnot Institutes network in France, dedicated to bioenergy and bio-based products. It brings together several academic research laboratories and technical centers around a shared objective: developing innovative solutions to valorize biomass (plants, agricultural residues, organic waste) into energy, value-added molecules, or sustainable materials.

In 2020, the collaboration between TWB, CRITT Bio-Industries (INSA Toulouse), and TBI (INSA/INRAE/CNRS) led to its designation as an industrial integrator for bioproduction in the health sector under the name TIBH (Toulouse Industrial Biotechnology for Health).

This designation, granted within the framework of the “Biomedicines” Grand Challenge led by the General Secretariat for Investment (SGPI), was renewed in July 2022 for a five-year period. Among the six existing integrators, TIBH is the only national integrator working specifically on microorganisms.
