IBISBA Reminder

Launched in 2015 with INRAE, the European initiative Industrial Biotechnology Innovation and Synthetic Biology Acceleration (IBISBA) is a programme to bring together European infrastructures to support and accelerate industrial biotechnology projects. The network brings together several platforms covering the entire research process from the design phases to production. IBISBA aims to coordinate the action of these platforms in order to remove the biological and technological obstacles encountered in the development of an industrial bioprocess. This project brings together 14 infrastructures from 9 European countries, including VVT (Finland), RWTH Aachen University, Fraunhofer IGB/CBP (Germany) and Manchester Institute of Biotechnology (United Kingdom).

Focusing on the different R&D phases in the development of bioprocess, IBISBA offers services related to the computer-aided design of biomolecules, the construction of enzymes and microbial strains, fermentation, downstream processing steps and the management of the project knowledge assets.

The European Commission (EC) has incorporated this infrastructure in its ESFRI (European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures) roadmap and approved in August 2019 the “PREP-IBISBA” project, aiming to set up this research infrastructure as an autonomous legal entity with its business model, business plan and scientific roadmap, with funding of €4 million over 4 years.
